Gorillaz Homage
New drawing from Joe Olson that I just finished laying down colors on.
It's really relaxing to color other people's art.. I love doing it..

Making a Full Size Halo Helmet
So I've started to make a full size Halo Helmet.. the CQB helmet..
Thought I'd track my process on this as I go..
This process can be used I think for anything you want to get a 3D model from computer to real life..
I have plans to make my own toys and things using this same process so we will see how it goes..
Step 1: Model something in your favorite 3D package... or find a model online..
Needs to be obj format (you can skip this step if you can find Pepakura files already made)
Step 2: What's Pepakura? It's a program that will import obj files and lays them out on paper adding tabs and fold lines to glue together to make a 3D model into a paper model...

Step 3: Get your supplies .. You'll need an x-acto knife, a cutting pad, a small metal ruler and glue.. The best glue I have found, which creates a quick bond is Scotch Quick-Dry Adhesive.. it also had a very small tip which is really good for hitting a spot of glue on small tabs..

Step 4: Print out the pages onto cardstock..

Step 5: Cut out all the pieces.. on the printout you will have solid lines, dashed lines and dash dot dash lines... the solid lines are cuts.. I use the ruler on the straight pieces unless its a tab.. then I just cut eyeballing it..

and here is a piece

Step 6: Score the fold lines.. the dash lines are mountain folds.. and the dash dot dash lines are valley folds.. I score the mountain folds on the front of the piece and the valley folds from the backside..

Step 7: Glue it all together.. So find the matching numbers and glue those pieces together.. If you have a lot of pieces then it's helpful to have Pepakura open so you can find the shapes of the corresponding pieces.. otherwise it can be a nightmare finding the number.. in this case there were over 900 numbers to match up..

Start of gluing all the pieces together..

Here is a closeup of some of the numbers..

And finally here is the Helmet fully assembled..

So you can stop here.. try and paint it.. you can also use different colors of carstock or even print this out with textures...
I however am now going to take this and resin the outside, fiberglass the inside.. make padding and make a visor for this.. So I will update this thread when I get that done... I am also starting on a weapon... The biggest thing I have to wait for is getting the weather to warm up a bit.. and moving into my new house which is about 10 days away...

First time paint customizations
So I have decided to start painting over some stuff I have bought because I think I can do a better job than what it comes with. Also I am pretty much done buying toys and statues etc. I am going to start making my own...
The other thing I am working on right now is a full size resin/fiberglass halo helmet.. I'll post up pics of that as I progress..
I forgot to take pictures before I painted it but these come in a 3pack and I painted over the pastel yellow one like in this pack...

So here is the result.. I hope to learn more techniques as I go..

Currently what's happening
Well I guess it's official. I stink at keeping a blog up to date.
I've just been having some downtime since finishing off Meet the Robinsons game.
We are also finishing up another game right now that I have helped out on. It isn't announced yet though.
We are now ramping up for the next project. I've been asked to be the World Lead for the project. It is an unannounced project as of now. It'll good experience for me to be in charge of the environment artists. I've already drawn up a schedule laying out the number of team members we will need and when we will need them on board to finish the project on time.
anyway who knows when I'll post again.. hehe

GDC
I just got back from Game Developers Conference in San Fransisco. This was my first time at GDC and I learned sooo much. It was such a more professional environment. Much better than E3 ever was. I am super glad I got to go. I can't wait to get to work so I can implement some of the things I have learned.
What a great time. I loved San Fransisco. What a great town. There was so much to see and do. I really need to just take a vacation there with my wife.
I got to go on a tour of Lucas Arts and ILM. If I could talk my wife into moving there I know I could get a job at Lucas Arts as an environment artist. That's a pipe dream though as she doesn't want to move.

Been a while...
I know it's been forever.. Not like anyone is even reading this thing.
I've been in and out of the hospital for a while so this blog is one of the last things on my mind.
Chicken Little 2: Ace in Action is finally on the shelves. PS2 and wii versions of the game are available. We are wrapping up Meet the Robinsons right now. The movie should be out sometime in the spring.

Monster House
Saw Monster House last night. Wow! What a great show.. The animation of the kids was top notch. All the dialog was good too.. I don't think I ever felt like the story was dragging, or boring. There was also no lame dialog stuff just thrown in. What a fun great show. I really hope people go see this movie. The theater for an opening weekend wasn't packed by any means. Chowder stole the show.. He's the chubby kid. Anyway if your looking for a good movie to see.. this is a good one. By the way.. the old man was freaky..

A scanner darkly
IGN has the first 24 minutes of the film online..
first 24 minutes
I wasn't sure I would like this film but after seeing this 24 minutes of it I want to see the whole film now.
41Days..
Just that much left to finish Chicken Little: Ace in Action. Can't wait to be done with this game. I guess I always feel that way near the end of any game...

Latest colors
Well just got done with this one.. pencils by Gregory Titus.. I did the inks and colors.
Well it's been busy at work. Hence the lack of updates.. We are a week away from beta for Chicken Little: Ace in Action. Approximately 6 weeks from submission. So busy busy time of the year.
Recently saw Pirates of the Carribean 2. What an awesome show!! Cg characters were amazing. ILM really out did themselves and Weta. I thought everything was well done and I can't wait for the 3rd one next year.
Also saw Click. Definately different than what I thought it was gonna be but good nonetheless.

MI 3
I got to see Mission Impossible 3 tonight. I really really enjoyed it. Thought it was the right director for the job. Good mix of action and character development, which I think lacked in the last one.
Well we are hitting the movie summer stride and there are alot of movies coming out this summer worth seeing. Snakes on a Plane, XMen 3, Superman Returns, and much more that I can't think of right now...
Also just picked up the new Tool CD and the new Red Hot Chili Peppers. Both definately worth buying. They are both filled with goodness.
